Loyalty Oath Misrepresented (Washington Times) 03/18/09

Letters to the Editor

The Washington Times March 18, 2009

To the Editor:

Eli Lake makes a factual error in describing Avigdor Lieberman's proposal for a loyalty oath as directed solely to Israeli Arabs with the risk of expulsion ("U.S. barred Netanyahu aide 2 years ago," March 17).

According to the public platform of the "Israel Is Our Home" Party, Mr. Lieberman proposes a loyalty oath for all Israeli citizens upon reaching age 18. Those who refuse to take this oath will become "residents" of Israel and lose their status as citizens. Whatever one thinks of this idea, there is enough to debate and discuss with the actual policy proposal without misrepresenting it.

Sincerely,

Abraham H. Foxman

National Director
